The Canada – Mozambique Maternal Health Projects supports and promotes women’s and adolescent girls’ sexual, reproductive, and maternal health through strengthened Sexual Reproductive Maternal Health services and direct community engagement in 5 target districts in Inhambane province. Linking women’s empowerment with reduced maternal mortality is key. Here, the woman standing  is the leader of the local health committee in Inhapupo, Homoine district. When the meeting started, one of her first acts was to ask the women and men to sit together – practice coming together equally – to discuss how to work towards improved community health and well-being for everyone, with the active participation of women and girls. A great example of leadership for gender equality!
